2018-2019 Recruitment Information

The 2018-2019 rowing season is about to commence and we are welcoming new recruits to the team!

Rebel Rowing held its first recruitment meeting last week with a turnout of over 40 people. We are excited to see interest in the program is expanding and that rowing is becoming better known in the school.

This year some changes were made to the programming. The fall will begin with our novices learning the basics of rowing in a competitive environment before the experienced rowers rejoin us in November for strength and conditioning training. The regular high school rowing season will begin in February with our highlight event, depending on fundraising, being a training camp and regatta in British Columbia.

Other changes in our programming include testing starting in October to further create a fun yet competitive team environment.

Tuesday, September 11th – Club’s Day
2nd Block & Lunch – East Gym
Come visit us in the East Gym during Club’s Day. Events include an erg-off against one of our rowers with a chance to win your lunch!

Wednesday, September 12th – Team Information Meeting #2
Lunch – Room 247
Missed the first team information meeting or just visited us at Club’s Day? We will hold a second one at lunch in room 247 for those interested in what our season will look like.

Friday, September 14th – First Indoor Practice & Walk-on
4PM – 6PM @ The Edmonton Rowing Club
PERMISSION FORM REQUIRED BEFORE PARTICIPATING – This introductory practice will go over basic technique using rowing machines and our indoor tank. All our welcome however a permission form must be signed to participate. Permission forms will be available at the practice for those dropped off by parents.

Monday, September 17th – Indoor Practice & Walk-on
4PM – 6PM @ The Edmonton Rowing
 Club
PERMISSION FORM REQUIRED BEFORE PARTICIPATING – This introductory practice will go over basic technique using rowing machines and our indoor tank. All our welcome however a permission form must be signed to participate. Permission forms will be available at the practice for those dropped off by parents. Those who attended Friday’s practice will continue working on technique

Tuesday, September 18th – First OUTDOOR Practice & Walk-on
4PM – 6PM @ The Edmonton Rowing Club
PERMISSION FORM REQUIRED BEFORE PARTICIPATING – This practice will go over the basics of rowing on-water in an eight as well as how to safely handle a boat. All our welcome however a permission form must be signed to participate. Permission forms will be available at the practice for those dropped off by parents.
